Sep 15, 2010 - ive been running a ex600 external filter for 2 weeks now and have. Do i go about cleaning out the filter? I dont have the instructions anymore. The lovely folks at Warehouse Aquatics kindly substituted this Tetra external filter, even though it was more expensive. It looked impressive from the packaging, and I had high hopes for it. As mentioned with some other Tetra models- the siphon pump on this is absolute rubbish. I have an Aquamanta external filter on another tank- and this one is easy as pie- doesn't even really need any pumping. The Tetra is so difficult to get started, and then release airlock from- I hate it. Added to that the flow rate is really poor in my opinion.

I've gone back temporarily to an internal filter. I wouldn't recommend this unless they do something about the siphon pump.

Perhaps the best thing for me though is how quiet it is - which is one of the main reasons i purchased it in the first place!) It sits about 2m away from where i sleep and i can hardly hear it!

The only problem i have encountered is that the inlet sponge does get clogged, and so i have decided to remove it (which should be fine unless you have any fry in the tank!)
