I just wanted to let people know that the Rock Band drums and guitar can be connected to the PC. What makes this really interesting is that there is a game called DTXMania that basically is the same as Rock Band (minus the vocals).

DTXMania is based on the Drummania and Guitarfreaks arcade games which have been around for many years. All of the official songs from the arcade games are available to play. What makes this even more interesting though, is that people can create their own tracks. The community is mainly from Asia at the moment, so there are relatively few english songs floating around (probably a couple hundred). There are well done songs from bands like Tool, Radiohead, Blink182, Weezer (the entire Blue Album!!), Foo Fighters and various others. Most of the songs have drum parts but not guitar (I think people find guitar less interesting, and I agree with them). What I would really like to see is for all of the Rock Band players who now have instruments to form a community, and start making and sharing quality songs.

I have made a couple of songs for Against Me! And The Offspring, and it takes a few hours to get it right but it isn't rocket science. I just did the drum track as close as possible to the real song, without trying to make easier versions (although you can do that as well). As for the game itself, I would say if feels a little more 'hardcore' than Rock Band (for drums that is). RB is very forgiving in that as long as you hit the notes at roughly the right time, it triggers the actual recorded drum track which has perfect timing. With DTXmania, it plays each sound exactly when you hit the drum, so if you are hitting the right notes but your timing is poor, you will hear it.

It also visibly ranks each hit as perfect, good, poor, etc. And assigns you an overall% score for the song based on these (every note perfect would be 100%). You can just copy the DTXFiles.Starter folder into your regular song directory. Here's a link to a Midi to USB converter that will work on PC (as well as PS2 for Drummania, but may require a Yamaha drum set) for those of you who have e-drums w/ a brain & want to go for the full package (4 cymbals 3 toms): I also made some custom skins.
