Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, multisystem autoimmune disorder that can affect nearly every major organ system, causing inflammation, tissue injury, organ damage, and, ultimately, organ dysfunction. 1 Severity of the disease can vary from mild to potentially fatal.
